Licensed Psychologist

Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts

he/him

Dr. Sebastian Barr works as a psychotherapist, researcher, consultant, and educator, with primary interest/skill/experience in trans mental health, traumatic stress, and the intersection of these foci, though he also considers himself a generalist and received advanced training in long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy for a wide range of presenting concerns. He has been providing psychotherapy since 2012, graduated with his PhD in 2018, and completed a two-year postdoc fellowship in 2020. He currently operates a private practice virtually is licensed in both Kansas and Massachusetts. Sebastian’s clinical work is grounded in psychodynamic theory, feminist and Black scholars’ models of trauma and trauma recovery (including models of oppression as sources of trauma or contributors to traumatic stress), and principles of liberation psychology. He is a firm believer in the role of psychologists and other mental health clinicians as advocates, and has worked to translate research and clinical acumen into actions/activism and community-facing resources. In his life and his work, Sebastian believes both in the importance of engaging honestly with the harsh realities of our world(s) and the necessity of finding joy, awe, and meaningful connection alongside this practice.
